Bouquet 2002

Bouquet explores the social ritual and ceremony of “taking tea”, realised through the vehicle of the tea set. The intricacies of interpersonal relationships are brought into sharp focus by exquisite detail within a small and precious format. The animated vessels stand on their rose petal toes, first one way, then another, their eccentricities echoing the dance of friendship, the waxing and waning of a relationship. Within the folded layers of embroidered “cloth” is secreted a wealth of history and memory. The translucent steel translates emotionally and physically as fragility, belying a resilience and strength fundamental in both relationships and tea sets.
